In my formative years, I wore school uniforms. My mother sewed. Special purchases were bought from the Sears catalogue. And, all purchases had to be on sale. As my sister puts it, “Mom could make a penny squeak.” No criticism, just the sign of the times.
In the mid 70’s, I was a stay-at-home Mom who also taught Yoga. My wardrobe consisted of exercise leotards with an extra dress or two. Then, I found the need to return to the workplace. A friend suggested that since I was going to invest in clothing for my job, would it not be a great idea to have a color analysis. I could purchase the clothing in the right colors for me. I agreed and made the appointment.
When I walked in, the consultant looked at me and stated, “Oh my.” My hair was the wrong color, I wore clothing in the wrong colors and my makeup needed help. My takeaways from the appointment — I received a personalized color palette, suggestions on which types of clothing would look great on my body type, everything about clothing and tailoring, and as an added bonus the consultant took me shopping for makeup. I also had my hair color changed to my natural color.
This entire experience was like Pandora’s Box opening up. I didn’t know what I didn’t know but I sure found out. I took my palette of colors everywhere with me. All of this help boosted my self esteem and gave me such confidence to enter an office everyday. I soon learned that the office was my runway.
In my image consulting business, I did the same process for my clients. What you can expect in this Substack will be information on personal color analysis, how to use color to your successful advantage, how to place color on your body, skin tone and eye color and much more.

When you described your first visit to the consultant, I laughed out loud! I am a color and image consultant from way back in the eighties and although I rarely work now at 81 years of age, I never stop enjoying my own colors and style and helping my friends as wanted. Thank you for your insights. Look forward to more.
This is great, Clarisse! "The officer was my runway." Isn't every path we take, our runway? What a lovely thought.
